Last week, I announced that I have joined SGNL as the VP of Product Strategy. I was—and continue to be—blown away by the congratulations and enthusiasm from colleagues and customers alike. It’s a testament to why I love identity so much: its heart.
Why SGNL? More than just good vibes
I wanted to take a moment to share more about why I made this decision. As I mentioned in my announcement, working with customers energizes me. One of the first things I said to Scott Kriz when we started discussing this role was that every interaction I had with the SGNL team just felt right. Not to get all New Age-y, but you can feel when there’s good chemistry with peers–it’s something you actively seek out.
But my decision was about more than just good vibes. What the team at SGNL has built is nothing short of amazing. They’ve dramatically simplified customers’ privileged access management for critical systems like cloud infrastructure and code pipelines. When you see a customer replace tens of thousands of IAM roles in AWS with just a few simple policies, it blows you away. Those are material savings in terms of complexity, exposure, and oh my just think of all of the quarterly access reviews that don’t have to happen any more!
And that’s just the beginning. The reduction in complexity, governance overhead, and spend on PAM licenses for production environments is a huge deal.
Making event-based IAM a reality
And that’s only one reason why I am so impressed with what SGNL offers. Modern IAM depends on our identity infrastructure becoming more dynamic, more responsive, and more available than it has been traditionally. Traditional IAM approaches, especially in workforce settings, only had four opportunities to express policy: join, move, leave, and authenticate.
It’s hard to be part of a continuous, zero-trust world if you only have four static opportunities when you can do what you do. Event-based IAM is a must and SGNL, through both its contributions to the Shared Signals Framework at the OpenID Foundation and its CAEP Hub, make event-based IAM a reality. And we just do it so well.
There’s more… much more. And I cannot wait to help be a part of that. Trust me, you’re gonna want to see this.
What I’ll be doing at SGNL
So what exactly am I doing here? Unfortunately, “VP of Being Ian” isn’t a real job title… apparently. 😜
Officially, I’m the VP of Product Strategy. That means I’ll be helping shape and articulate where SGNL needs to go–internally, for our customers and prospects, and for the industry at large. I’ll also be leading analyst relations (takes one to know one!) and continuing to be out and about in the IAM community.
I’ll be on the road next month at an upcoming Identity Salon event and the Gartner IAM London conference–come say hi!
Let’s go!
Long story short, I couldn’t be more excited to join SGNL. The warm welcome from the team has been incredible, and I’m thrilled to be working with such a smart, driven group of people.
It’s going to be a huge year for me—and for us. Time to cause some trouble!
